National Ice Cream Day A Treat For Gamblers In Las Vegas Casinos
Today is National Ice Cream Day across the US, and that serves as good news for gamblers in both Atlantic City and Las Vegas. In the midst of the summer heat, slot machine and poker players have taken time out today to enjoy their favorite ice cream flavors.
In Atlantic City, National Ice Cream Day falls at a time when several AC casinos have been dealing with a loss of air conditioning this past week. Trump Plaza Resort & Hotel had to shut down for several days after their air conditioning units were damaged due to utility problems in the city.
"My family and I have been in town for a little over a week and we have enjoyed our time in New Jersey," said Marvin Blascow. "Today, however, I took time out from my daily poker tournament to enjoy ice cream with the wife and kids. It was a fun day."
In Las Vegas, similar stories were unfolding along the Las Vegas Strip. The World Series of Poker has been going on for the past month, and visitors were packing their bags this weekend in anticipation of returning home. The main event concluded early Sunday morning when the final table was announced.
The players taking part in the main event final table will now have a couple of months off before they have to return to Vegas in November. In the meantime, all along the Strip tourists were packing into restaurants and ice cream shops to do their part in celebrating National Ice Cream Day.
One bit of bad news for ice cream lovers on this day is the announcement that Baskin Robbins will be retiring five flavors. Carmel Praline Cheesecake, Apple Pie a la Mode, Superfudge Truffle, French Vanilla, and Campfire S'Mores are all being eliminated.
