National Problem Gambling Awareness Week Celebrated In Arizona
National Problem Awareness Week is upon us and many states are stepping up to try and combat gambling addiction. March 1st through March 7th, there will be different activities around the country to raise awareness to this problem.
In Arizona, Governor Janice Brewer has announced that the state will be holding a day-long symposium for counseling and medical professionals. A variety of speakers will be featured throughout the day and will spend time on different aspects of problem gambling.
Dr. Jon E. Grant will be the keynote speaker at the event, which will be held at Black Canyon Conference center from 8:30AM to 4PM. Grant is the co-director of the Impulse Control Disorders Clinic at University of Minnesota Medical center in Minneapolis.
While Grant's speech will focus on the brain, others will focus on financial and emotional problems that gambling can cause. There will even be people who are currently recovering from gambling addictions that will speak on their recovery efforts.
For anyone interested in attending the day-long event, reservations are necessary. The price of admission is $75. Six hours of continuing education credits are available for participants. A certificate will be given at the end of the symposium.
Other states will also be participating in Problem Gambling Awareness Week. To find out about events in your area go to the National Council On Problem Gambling website.
