With increasing casino gambling taking place in almost every state in the US, it is becoming more necessary for these states to understand just how to deal with the problem gambling issue. That is where the National Council on Problem Gambling comes in.

The Council holds annual conferences where guest speakers outline the dangers of problem gambling. These speakers also give resources for detecting and treating gambling addiction. It is a valuable source of information.

The Council has now set their conference date and place for 2010. The conference will be held in Portland, Oregon, and will take place from Thursday June 10th, to Saturday June 12th. This year's conference has just ended and was attended by hundreds of people from the gambling industry.

"It is important for people within the gambling industry to know everything they possibly can about gambling addiction," said observer Carol Jenkins, "the National Council does a great job of bringing in knowledgeable people and allowing them to educate their audience."

This past year did not have the attendance of previous years' conferences. The economy held some people away from the conference in Indianapolis. With gambling options increasing in the US, it is expected that the 2010 conference sees a spike in attendance.

Problem gambling has been rising in the US because of the expanded gambling. States have been changing laws to allow for more casinos, but they have not kept up with setting aside enough funding and resources to help curb gambling addiction.
