NBA Owner Can Take Bets At His Palms Casino Resort
The NBA is much like the NFL when it comes to gambling on their sport. They pretend that it does not exist, and claim that they do not encourage that form of entertainment.
Then a story comes out like the one involving Sacramento Kings owners, the Maloof family. The family also owns and operates the Palms Casino Resort, which up until now, had never accepted sports bets on the NBA.
A unanimous vote by the league board of governors changed all of that. They voted to allow the casino to take bets on NBA games, as long as there are no bets taken on games involving Sacramento.
The vote and the rules are similar to those that are in place for Harrah's Entertainment. The Harrah's group has a stake in the Boston Celtics. they are allowed to accept bets on any games that the Celtics are not playing in.
"It just allows us to be on a level playing field with all the other casinos in the city. It's more about a convenience to your customer. The Kings are off the board. And they feel good about that," said Joe Maloof.
The Maloof family had asked the Board a while back about possibly lifting the ban that was placed on the casino. It took them a while, but they finally agreed to lift the ban.
While the league remains firm on their outward appearance that they do not promote gambling on their sport, this decision clearly defines that they understand the important role that gambling plays in the advancement of their sport in America.
