New Casino Already Lays Off Five Percent Of Employees
This certainly is not the best of economic times to be opening a new casino resort. Still, when casinos had been planned before the recession, the show must go on. For the M Resort, that show will just go on a little lighter.
The management of the M Resort, which is located on Las Vegas Boulevard, has announced that they have laid off around 100 employees. That figure represents exactly five percent of the 2,000 employees.
"This was not a case as much about losing money as it was about the casino resort hiring too many employees to begin with," said observer Dallas Bradent, "Now that they get a feel for their clientele, there should not be many more layoffs."
The casino hired an additional 250 employees just a couple of days after opening. The early crowds may have scared M Resort officials into the hiring of the new workers. Now that it has been a couple of months, the management team has a better feel for the amount of employees that are necessary.
In Henderson, where the casino is located, revenue has dropped by four percent in March. That figure is actually lower than many other areas around the country that have been experiencing revenue decreases of ten to twenty percent.
