New Casinos Hit Top Jackpots
The state's newest casinos are off to a strong start, drawing big crowds and raking in the profits. It was Iowa's top-drawing casino last month, bringing in $16. 4 million in gross revenues from 274,000 people, according to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
"Things are going really well," said Christie Scott, spokeswoman in Council Bluffs for Harrah's Entertainment Inc. , which operates Horseshoe Casino, as well as Harrah's riverboat on the Missouri River. In northern Iowa, the new $40 million Diamond Jo Worth Casino in rural Worth County opened in early April. For the month, it drew 126,000 customers and had gross gambling revenues of nearly $5.7 million, more than double original monthly estimates. The average gambler lost $45.
