New Lottery Laws in Iowa Requiring Signatures on Winning Tickets
Lottery fraud does not happen often. In Iowa, officials are taking preventative measures to block against such fraudulent activity. The new policy will go into effect on Saturday.
Beginning this weekend, any person who wants to check or cash a lottery ticket in the state of Iowa, will be required to sign the ticket first. The move is being made to prevent any type of lottery fraud.
"Iowa has had a very strong record regarding lottery security, and the changes we are implementing are designed to protect against even the possibility of fraud," said acting CEO of the Lottery, Ken Brickman.
Another change will occur to the lottery system in May. Paper receipts will be printed with every ticket that is either cashed, or checked. This will allow for both the retailer and the person cashing the ticket to make sure the amounts paid are correct.
Although there have not been many cases in Iowa of fraud, there was a feel that additional precautionary measures were needed. In Canada, fraud cases have been popping up. That has made Iowa officials look into taking the steps necessary to ensure lottery fraud does not become a problem.
