Penn National may be running out of patience when it comes to their casino project in Columbus, Ohio. Although voters have approved four casinos for the state last November, a second area is opposing the expansion in Columbus.

When voters approved four casinos back in November, Penn National could not have been more thrilled, but now the company is receiving major resistance in Columbus. First, business groups were against a casino in the Arena District, and now the proposed Polaris area site has little support.

Penn National agreed to take a look at sites outside of the Arena District, and Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman suggested four alternative sites. The former Delphi auto-parts plant near the Hilltop, Cooper Stadium in Franklinton, Westland Mall, and Polaris.

Prosecutor David Yost, however, took exception to the Polaris offering, and sent a letter to Coleman this past week. He does not believe Polaris is the place for a new casino.

"Delaware County is growing because people want what we have here," said Yost, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch, "A quiet, peaceful, safe place to live and raise your family. A full-blown casino just doesn't seem to fit in with that kind of idea. It seems like something that belongs in a big city."

Casinos, indeed, will be in big cities in other areas of the state. Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Toledo, are the other three areas that will receive new casinos after the November vote.
