New Zealand Online Course Teaching About Problem Gambling
New Zealand is concerned about the growing number of problem gamblers in their country. They have started to take precautions to ensure that all people working in gambling related fields are educated.
Their latest attempt is an online course that is being offered by Palmerston North's UCOL. The course is designed to help employees who work in hotels, bars, or any other establishments where gambling is permitted.
The class is offered online and is six weeks long. Upon completion of the course the hospitality workers will have a better understanding on how to spot problem gamblers.
The class will also give the workers the tools to take the appropriate action that is required by law if they spot someone with a gambling problem. The class is just another step to try and curb the gambling problems of New Zealand residents.
Palmerston North is also examining the possibility of eliminating some gambling machines in the city. Currently, there are 477 machines that are allowed by law. The City Council may drop that number to 430.
