No Longer The Hilton, Las Vegas Hotel & Casino Starts New Era

For years, travelers have looked up the Las Vegas Hilton when looking for one of the top casinos in Sin City. At the end of 2011, however, the licensing agreement ran out on the naming rights, and the gaming facility began 2012 under a new name, The Las Vegas Hotel & Casino.

The casino has been a mainstay in Las Vegas since it opened in 1969. It only made it two years under the name International Hotel before it became known as the Las Vegas Hilton. That name stuck for four decades, but early in 2011 executives decided it was time to change the name. The economy had caused a struggle, and officials were looking for something they could re-brand.

The first item of business for the casino will be to retain its existing customer base. Without the popular Hilton name, some customers may believe the casino no longer exists. It is a problem that the casino cannot afford with the economy continuing to cause trouble in Sin City.

"I was there a couple of months ago, and there were signs and other stuff that showed the new name was coming, so for me, its not that big a deal," said Illinois resident Garth Sedell. "I still get my coupons in the mail from them, and that's all I need to keep going back."

The Hilton may be most famous for being the stomping grounds of the great Elvis Presley. The King of Rock played almost 1,000 gigs at the Hilton. Other big time performers have also done shows at the casino resort, but the company does not believe the name change will have much of an effect on attracting entertainers.

Las Vegas casinos may soon receive a boost in revenue when the state regulates online poker. A recent decision by the Department of Justice has opened the door for Nevada to become the first state in the nation to offer online casinos. The race is on between Nevada and New Jersey, another state who has lawmakers well advanced in the process of bringing online casinos to their residents. The two states are both expected to have online casinos up and running, possibly by the end of this year.
