Northeast And South-Central Kansas Casino Proposals Seek Approval
The carousel that has been the Kansas casino application process takes another turn early next week. Proposals will be considered for two different zones in the state on Tuesday and Wednesday, and residents are hoping that this finally will be the time the casinos become reality.
In Dodge City, the one casino that is in the process of being built is close to being completed. The idea of a casino in Kansas seems like a distant memory for most residents, with the application process becoming long and tiresome.
At first, the Kansas Lottery approved four developers to run state-owned casinos. Three of the four developers, however, pulled out of their deals when the financial crisis hit the US. The price they paid to win the rights to the Kansas casinos became too high with the credit crunch.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Gaming Facility Review Board will be meeting to discuss proposals from a group wanting to bring a casino to Kansas City, overlooking the Kansas Speedway.
The other proposal would be in Chisholm Creek and would be built near Mulvane. This proposal would cost $225 million to build, while the Kansas City proposal would be a $521 million project.
The Chisholm Creek casinos is being proposed by a group that includes a group of developers that previously had been competing with each other. Lakes Entertainment Inc. is part of that group.
