Towards the end of the summer it looked as though the Atlantic City casino industry may have finally turned the corner when it came to gaming revenue. Those hopeful thoughts were squashed again this week when the city reported another revenue decrease for the month of November.
According to revenue figures released this week, Atlantic City casinos had a decrease of 13.4% this November compared to the same period a year ago. The overall revenue for the first eleven months of the year was also down 13.5%.
Revenue for the first eleven months of this year was down to $3.7 billion. While that is still a large number, it is nowhere near where the city's casinos are used to. The almost fourteen percent decrease is a sign of the times throughout the country.
"The economic recession has severely damaged the casino gambling industry across the US," said Gaming Analyst Brad Dawkins, "And anytime an industry goes down, it is its biggest suppliers that are hurt the most. For the casino industry, that means Las Vegas and Atlantic City."
Even though revenue is down in some of the biggest gambling areas, that does not mean the rest of the country has walked away from the industry. In fact, states are expanding their casino gambling options at a record pace, a pace that has never been seen before in the US.
Gambling in general has become a big business in the US. State lotteries are held in almost every state in the nation, and online gambling regulations are being discussed by lawmakers in Washington.
