Ohio Casino Gambling Initiative Looking Strong Heading To Election

Casino gambling and the state of Ohio have never had themselves a strong relationship. For years voters have turned away the opportunity to legalize casino gambling in the state, but this time around it may be different.

Several polls now indicate that voters in Ohio are in favor of the casino gambling initiative on the ballot for November. If approved, casinos would be built in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Toledo.

"This time around people are really starting to look at the advantages of having casinos in the state," said CGW Casino Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "With the economy devastating portions of Ohio, voters will approve anything that will bring more employment to Ohio."

The need for jobs and revenue is what drove a group to set out on their mission to secure signatures for the casino initiative. The group turned in more than the necessary signatures needed and now it will be up to voters whether or not to approve the casinos.

Anti-gambling groups have been busy at work trying to shoot down the idea that casinos would be good for the state. These groups have focused on the arguments that have been made for decades against casinos. Crime and gambling addiction would go up in Ohio if casinos were approved, that is what the detractors say.

There have been several polls that have been completed over the past few months and in almost all of them, the support for casino gambling is around fifty-five to sixty percent. That could translate into a win for the casino initiative in November, overturning years of opposition from voters in the state.
