Ohio Casino Gambling Proponents Ante Up For Their Cause
The proponents of casino gambling in Ohio see this year as their best chance in decades of bringing casinos to the state. That is why as the November election approaches, the pro-gambling group has revved up their spending.
Thursday was the deadline for the finance filing and it showed a major discrepancy between supporters of the two sides of Issue 3. Those in favor of casinos spend $32 million. That is almost a five to one ratio to those who oppose the casinos.
Ohio has never been this close to casino gambling. Voters have had the opportunity in the past to bring casinos to the state, but they have turned the proposals down each time. This time, recent polls suggest that voters are in favor of the casino plan, with sixty percent saying they would vote in favor of Issue 3.
The opposition has brought up all of the usual arguments when it comes to casino gambling. They claim there will be more crime and that gambling addiction will become a problem in the state. Those points, however, have been addressed by the pro-gambling group, the Ohio Jobs and Growth Committee.
The group has spent much of their campaign funds to run advertisements showing the advantages of bringing casinos to Ohio. They have also educated the general public about the misconceptions that exist when dealing with the casino gambling issue.
Further hurting the opposition is the law enforcement agency's in Ohio. Several of the biggest law and fire groups have publicly supported Issue 3. These groups claim that the money generated from the casinos that is marked for an increase in public safety far outweighs the negative aspects of casino gambling.
