Oklahoma Becoming One Of Biggest Slot Gambling States in Nation
Oklahoma was just following the pattern set by other states, when, in 2004, voters approved a bill that would expand the state lottery as well as casino gaming.
Now that vote is paying off big time as a recent study reports that Oklahoma is one of the top three states in number of slot machines within the state.
Only California and Nevada are ahead of Oklahoma in the amount of slots they possess. Oklahoma has 97 casinos that house over 45,000 machines.
The revenue generated from those machines is also an eye opening number, $2.2 billion generated from last year. That number pops out even more when the study suggests that $617 per capita is spent on gambling in the state.
The report comes from The North American Gaming Almanac, which also details casino growth in the U.S. as well as total revenue for the leading states in the nation.
Nevada has long been the leader in revenue from gambling in large part due to the Las Vegas strip, but as time goes on the gap is being closed due to all the expansion in other states.
People no longer have to travel across the country to gamble, and states such as Florida offer a much more vacation atmosphere for travelers.
