Oneida Nation Tribal Workers Receive Big Bonuses From Gambling
The Oneida Indian Nation had such a strong year when it came to their gambling operations, that their employees will be given strong bonuses. $5 million will be paid to 4,800 employees.
The Oneidas have acknowledged that their businesses have been profitable beyond expectations. Thanks to that profitability, employees of the Oneida Nation will be enjoying the holidays even more than they have in past years.
"While other casinos around the country have suffered at the hands of the economy, the Oneida's Turning Stone Resort Casino has continued to stay the course," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "If the casino is profitable, then the rest of their business operations will most likely follow."
Casinos around the US have been ravaged by the economic conditions in the US. Las Vegas and Atlantic City, two of the biggest casino destinations in the US have experienced double digit declines for much of the past year.
Even with the downfall of gaming profits, casino expansion has become one of the hottest industries in the US. Lawmakers are using the money generated from new casinos to help bridge budget gaps.
New York's Oneida and Madison counties have no bigger employer than the Oneida Nation. Almost the entire employee base of Oneida received a portion of the bonuses that were handed out.
