Proponents Dominate 2nd Casino Hearing

Voted Top Online Casino Several Years in a Row!

Opponents of a proposed casino in Bethlehem dominated a Monday hearing before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, saying the project would increase traffic and crime problems and disrupt the city's quaint charm. Wearing yellow "No Bethlehem Casino" buttons and waving signs that said "Bethlehem Resident Against Casino," about 15 people asked the gaming board to reject a proposal by Sands Bethworks Gaming to build an $879 million casino and shopping complex on 126 acres of former Bethlehem Steel land in south Bethlehem. "Bethlehem doesn't need a casino," south Bethlehem resident Valeria-Nina Tatlow said.

The third and final public hearing is today. The gaming board is expected to award licenses for stand-alone slots parlors in December. The state will allow up to 61,000 slot machines at 14 locations, with half of the licenses reserved for race tracks. The Lehigh Valley is considered a front-runner for one of the licenses because of its large population and proximity to New Jersey and New York.
