Oregon Steps Up Fight Against Compulsive Gambling Addiction
The Oregon Lottery is launching an effort to encourage more gambling addicts to seek help. Starting this fall, the agency will be putting stickers with a state-run, toll-free phone line where gamblers can seek help onto video gambling machines in 2,100 Oregon bars and taverns. Lottery retailers are already required to post at least one notice with information about compulsive gambling.
Oregon residents can receive free treatment for gambling addiction.
About 1,500 people a year seek treatment.
