Penn Casino Slots Lures Customers from W. Virginia
Once the casino slots parlors open, Pennsylvania can turn the tables on West Virginia's casinos by winning back gambling customers who have fled over the border.
West Virginia expects the state share of casino money to drop by about $100 million a year, from $422.7 million, immediately after Pennsylvania casino slots open, said Libby White, the West Virginia Lottery's deputy director for marketing.
"There will be somewhat of an impact," she said. "Competition does result in a potential loss of market share."
Standard & Poor's Rating Services placed Wheeling Island Race Track and Gaming Resort on credit watch "with negative implications" Friday because of the potential impact from Pennsylvania's slots. The track with a casino gambling facility is located about 55 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.
