Penn National Gaming Willing To Change Site Of New Columbus Casino

Penn National Gaming won the right back in November to build four casinos in the state of Ohio. One area that was awarded a casino, however, had residents and business owners unhappy with the proposed location of the casino.

There have been groups forming in Columbus to try and keep a casino out of the Arena District. The groups show that most of the residents in the area voted against Issue 3, the proposition to bring casino gambling to Ohio.

Penn National had held firm to the idea that they were moving forward with the Arena District casino up until now. The company now claims they are willing to explore other possible locations for the new casino.

Penn National is having no such problems in the other three areas of Ohio that were awarded casinos in the election. Cleveland, Toledo, and Cincinnati residents seem enthused by the idea of the new casinos.

The casino developer reached an agreement earlier in the week to buy the land in Toledo for the casino. Not wanting to rattle the feathers of any lawmakers in the state, Penn National will now try to work with Columbus officials on a new site.

The one thing that the company does not want, however, is a delay in their plans to build the Columbus casino. They informed city officials that they would only be open to the alternative locations if it would help them begin the building process quicker than they would have in the Arena District.

Prospective sites that were offered by city officials include the Westland Mall, Cooper Stadium, the former Delphi Corp. plant, and an unspecified area near Polaris Fashion Place.
