Penn. Officals Continue Casino Gambling Talks
More interesting land-based gambling news is coming out of Pennsylania. This law would make Pennsylvania casino operators start sending monthly financial statements to high-roller gamblers.
A campaign will be rolled out next week to push legislation by Rep. Paul Clymer, R-Bucks, to require operators to send the statements listing "winnings and losses" to holders of reward or "comp" cards.
The statements would alert a gambler or family members about mounting debt and serve as a proactive way to head off a gambling problem before it becomes an addiction, said Clymer.
"There are times when the family is not aware of how bad the indebtedness is until a foreclosure or checks come back," he added.
The legislation is also an opening yet long shot gambit to stop a widespread practice in the gambling industry from becoming entrenched in Pennsylvania: the providing of free amenities to frequent patrons who gamble large sums of money.
Reward cards track the amount of money and time a gambler spends in a casino gambling site in order to determine the value of complimentary services, free rooms, meals and prizes, he or she will receive.
