Pennsylvania Casino Revenue Increases As Atlantic City Declines
The state of Pennsylvania is showing the rest of the country how legalizing slot casinos can change an area. Revenue for the slot casinos in the state increased in the month of February while other states' watched their revenue decrease drastically.
On Thursday, state gaming regulators acknowledged that the six casinos in Pennsylvania increased their revenue fourteen percent in February. They generated $110.2 million in February of 2008, compared to $125.9 million this February.
Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs had the biggest gain of 43.5%. Their revenue grew to $17.8 million. Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack made the most in terms of money with revenue of $30.4 million. That was an increase of almost 6.5%.
It was not all good news for Pennsylvania casinos. Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack actually had revenue decrease from the previous year. They were down 1.89%, to $27.9 million.
While Pennsylvania casinos continue to prosper, Atlantic City casinos are falling are harder and harder times. Expansion plans for casinos in the city have halted and the existing casinos are experiencing dipping revenue figures with every passing month.
It may even get worse for AC casinos. The state of Pennsylvania will be welcoming two new casinos, the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, and the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. Both casinos are expected to be open this year.
