Pennsylvania Casino Will Stay Under Control Of DeNaples Family
Louis DeNaples had to come up with a plan if he was going to keep the casino he owns in Pennsylvania under his families control. DeNaples agreed to give up control of his Mount Airy Casino Resort in April as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.
On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board ensured that the casino would remain under the control of the DeNaples family. The board voted unanimously to allow DeNaples' daughter, Dr. Lisa A. DeNaples, to take over control of the casino resort.
"Mt. Airy Resort and Casino is an integral piece of the puzzle in providing property tax relief and economic development, along with providing living wage jobs in Northeast Pennsylvania," said PGCB Chairman Greg Fajt, "Approval of this petition assures a structure and conditions which permits the Board to exercise diligence in making sure Mt. Airy continues to deliver the benefits expected by Pennsylvanians."
DeNaples gave up control of his casino back in April when he and prosecutors agreed to a plea deal stemming from criminal charges that DeNaples had lied about his connections to organized crime. The state later admitted that the case against DeNaples was not strong.
After the plea deal was reached, DeNaples returned to his casino a couple of months later and was greeted back with a party in his honor. At that party, DeNaples spend a small amount of time greeting patrons, then spent the rest of the evening in a private room with family and close friends.
