The battle for supremacy in the gaming industry in the Northeast is about to heat up like a beach on a hot summer day. Pennsylvania casinos are in final preparations to possibly overtake New Jersey as the gaming capital of the East Coast.

Up until the economic recession, it seemed inconceivable that Pennsylvania casinos could make a run at toppling the Atlantic City casino industry. In December, however, revenue figures from slot machines at both New jersey and Pennsylvania, casinos changed the equation.

In December, Pennsylvania casinos had higher slot revenue than New Jersey casinos for the first time ever. The AC casinos had been hit hard by the economic conditions in the US, and Pennsylvania was helped by the addition of several new casinos in recent years.

Sensing a chance to create a rivalry with New Jersey's gaming industry, Pennsylvania lawmakers did the one thing that could give them credibility with gamblers, they legalized table games. Craps, roulette, and blackjack would provide the necessary tools to compete on a monthly basis.

The plan for many Pennsylvania casinos was to have the table games in place by the summer. With summer less than two weeks away, the table games have started being delivered to the casinos, and training classes have been ongoing for potential employees.

The latest casino to receive their tables for the new games was Mount Airy on Monday. The Poconos has long been a top tourist destination, and the table games will only bring thousands of more travelers into the area. Mount Airy has seventy-two tables games that will launch the new gambling era.

Pennsylvania lawmakers pointed to the employment opportunities as a reason to legalize the table games. More importantly for the state, millions of dollars in tax revenue is expected to be generated from the additional gambling.
