Pennsylvania Casinos Thrive With Table Game Gambling In July
Pennsylvania casinos received the last piece to the puzzle in July in their quest to become the gambling capital of the East Coast. Table games arrived at the Pennsylvania casinos, and revenue has jumped at all casinos.
The state was anticipating around $6 million a month when they expanded their gaming options earlier this year to include the table games. The figure for July was $2.45 million, but that was for only a little more than half a month of gambling. The table games were introduced in some casinos near the middle of July.
All of the tables have not yet been installed at some casinos. At The Meadows, only sixty-two tables were running, while at the Rivers Casino, eighty-five table games were being used. That caused a discrepancy between the two casinos in total revenue from the table games.
"It is early in the process and the likelihood is that the casinos will gain momentum going into the Fall months," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. "That $6 million figure is certainly within reach when considering that they started the table games in the middle of the summer, a typically slow time for casinos throughout the US."
Parx Casino had the highest daily average revenue from table games in the state. Harrah's Chester Casino and racetrack was second, and Rivers was third. The addition of the table games is also expected to boost slot revenue in the coming months.
Pennsylvania casinos have been making a strong push to overtake Atlantic City as the gaming capital of the Northeast. While AC casinos continue to struggle, Pennsylvania casinos are riding the momentum of expansion that has taken place in the past couple of years.
Despite the numbers being promising, executives at many of the Pennsylvania casinos warn that it is much too early in the game to get a good read on revenue in the future. The casinos are still trying to work out the kinks from installing the table games last month.
