Pennsylvania Gaming Board And Foxwoods Not Seeing Eye To Eye

The Foxwoods group is getting dangerously close to losing their casino license in the state of Pennsylvania. The Gaming Control Board has repeatedly warned Foxwoods that they must stop missing deadlines, or risk losing the license.

Now, the staff of the Gaming Board has petitioned the Board to start proceedings that would strip the Foxwoods group of the license. Although that is the recommendation, that does not mean the Board has closed the door on the issue.

Time still remains for Foxwoods and the Board to come to an acceptable agreement for both [parties that would allow Foxwoods to keep the license. Time, however, is running short, and the negotiations must heat up if the license is to be saved.

Steve Wynn was supposed to be the savior of a casino project that has been stalled because of the credit market, but Wynn suddenly pulled out of negotiations for the right to take over the casino project. Wynn claims that the timing was not for his entry into the Pennsylvania gaming industry.

That Wynn would pull out of the deal is a telling sign considering that the industry is about to explode. Already Pennsylvania casinos have passed Atlantic City casinos in slot revenue, and come the summer, the casinos will be armed with table games.

The deal with Wynn that fell through may not be the end of the casino mogul in the state. On Thursday, Wynn indicated to financial analysts that if the license came open, he would consider entering the bidding process.
