Pennsylvania House Committee Votes In Favor Of Casino Table Games
The House Gaming Oversight Committee on Friday voted along party lines when it came to adding table games at state slot casinos. The vote came down 14-11 in favor of the table games. This comes despite opposition from even the casinos themselves.
The casino believe that the proposed tax rate for table games in the Bill is too high. They are concerned that they will not see the financial rewards for adding the table games because of the tax rate.
Republicans also opposed the change, claiming that Democrats are rushing into this gambling expansion without the proper analysis that is needed. The lawmakers in favor of the table games believe the change is needed as soon as possible to help with budget problems.
There are two separate issue that are facing lawmakers in Pennsylvania when it comes to gambling. The first is that reform is needed, which is the issue addressed in a Bill that the Senate has passed.
The other issue is the table games, which the House decided to pony on to the Senate Bill. The governor, Ed Rendell, believes that the issues should have been kept separate and that the reform is needed before table games are added at state casinos.
Despite the strong opposition, the House committee voted in favor of the table games Friday. The casinos are concerned over the thirty-four percent tax rate being proposed. They are lobbying for a tax rate of twelve percent.
