Pennsylvania House Finalizes Table Games Legislation For Casinos

It took lawmakers in Pennsylvania longer than expected, but on Wednesday they finally came to an agreement on table game gambling at state casinos. The House passed the new legislation with a 103-89 vote.

The Senate had already passed the Bill, and now Pennsylvania will begin to challenge Atlantic City as the casino gambling capital of the East Coast. AC casinos have already been struggling, and this latest news out of Pennsylvania will only make things worse.

Governor Ed Rendell had to threaten lawmakers with the possibility of job losses should the table game legislation not be passed. Once Rendell outlined how 1,000 government jobs were going to be cut, lawmakers quickly pushed their differences aside and completed the legislation.

Pennsylvania has been among the fastest growing casino states in the US. With lawmakers turning to casinos to help them through the economic recession, Pennsylvania made the bold move of moving beyond just slot machines and poker.

The addition of blackjack and other popular table games will mean millions of dollars in revenue increases at state casinos. The state has already written their projected share of the revenue into the new budget.
