Pennsylvania House Moves Toward Table Game Casino Vote

Lawmakers in the state of Pennsylvania were so assured that they would complete legislation to legalize table game gambling in state casinos, that they wrote the revenue from the table games into the new budget. In the time since, however, they have been slow to move on the issue.

That was until this week. On Monday, the Pennsylvania House began to discuss a bill that would legalize table games. The debate shifts to the public today, and there may be a vote on a table game legalization bill on Wednesday.

In addition to the table games, two additional Category 3 licenses would be awarded to resort hotel casinos. There are currently two of the licenses that exist. The resort casinos could all have up to fifty table games if the bill passes as currently constructed.

It is not a foregone conclusion that the bill will pass. There is expected to be a heated debate that will take up most of the day today. The outcome of that debate could have lawmakers leaning one way or another by the end of the day.

Governor Ed Rendell has been urging legislators to pick up the pace on legalizing table games. Although the state has written the table game revenue into the budget, they still have not officially legalized the games.

Rendell claims that revenue is being lost with every day that passes without a resolution to the issue. The lawmakers have increased their efforts, however, in the past week, and they expect to have something done as early as Wednesday.
