Pennsylvania Set To Open 11th Casino On Saturday

Pennsylvania is expected to surpass New Jersey as the casino gambling capital of the East Coast by the end of the year, and it is their rapid movement into the industry over the past few years that has the state poised to take over the top spot.

On Saturday, the Valley Forge Casino Resort will open its door to hundreds of gamblers after the facility received the final regulatory approval on Friday. Valley Forge is set to become the 11th casino in Pennsylvania, but it will be the first of the smaller casinos approved back in 2004.

Pennsylvania has opened a handful of major casino resorts in recent years, with each facility hosting thousands of slot machines and hundreds of table games. Valley Forge will be on the smaller side, home to 600 slots and 50 table games. The size of the casino does not matter to some future customers.

"I would go even if they had only 100 slot machines," said Walter Bigsby. "I have always had to travel to play slots and poker, so having a casino so close to my home is going to be great. I'll be there when it opens Saturday, and I'm sure I'll spend plenty of time there in the coming months."

The past two days have been hectic for Valley Forge operators. As is required by law, the casino held two nights of trial games, where regulators ensured that all machines were operating properly and met regulatory standards. "The testing went smoothly," said Saverio Scheri, CEO and President of Valley Forge Casino Resort. "We cannot wait to open our doors to the public at midnight."

The midnight opening has many Pennsylvania residents excited about the prospects of a new entertainment destination on the outskirts of Valley Forge National Historic Park.

"My friends and I have been planning this outing tonight for months," said Sarah Grasken. "We are going out to dinner, then we are going to the movies and we are going to finish our night over at the casino. Hopefully it will be as nice as everyone says it is going to be."

Valley Forge will not only be about gambling. The facility has a nightclub, bars, and restaurants. Banquet space is available, as is customary with a casino resort, and a performance theatre is also part of the new entertainment destination.
