Even coming out of the steroid era, Pete Rose is considered to be an outcast within the baseball community. Commissioner Bud Selig has yet to lift a ban on Rose that prevents him from entering the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Selig, however, did approve Rose's attendance at a Reds game next month.

The Reds wanted to honor Rose on the twenty-fifth anniversary of him becoming the all-time hits leader in Major League Baseball. Rose's record 4,192nd hit is an accomplishment that Cincinnati has embraced for decades. Selig gave a one time permission for Rose to attend the game at the Great American Ballpark to be honored.

The scheduling set up somewhat of a conflict with Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The casino had booked Rose to appear on Sept. 10th and 11th. Upon learning of the approval from MLB, the Reds worked out an agreement with the casino to let Rose out of his commitment for a couple of hours.

Rose will be honored at the park at 7PM, and then he will head back to Hollywood Casino for a roast that is planned. Comedian Jon Warden will be the host of the roast, which is open to the public. Tickets will be sold at $200 each.

Part of the roast will undoubtedly deal with Rose's gambling on baseball. The gambling has gotten Rose banned from baseball, and outside of a celebration of the fifty greatest living players several years ago, Rose has been unable to return to the game he loved and help carry for a couple of decades.

There has been talk in recent years of lifting the ban, but Selig has been slow to address the situation. Selig is still waiting on a full admission from Rose that he bet on Reds games, and Rose has been defiant to that request.

Hollywood Casino is hoping that the Rose appearance will help boost revenue figured for the weekend. US casinos have been dealing with declining revenue since the recession, and competition has grown in recent years, making it harder for the casinos to recover.
