Philippines Making Strong Push To Become World Gambling Power
When one thinks of international gambling two main destinations come to mind, Las Vegas and Macau. Las Vegas has dominated the gambling market for decades, and Macau has recently taken over at the top.
Now there might be a new place that gamblers and gambling companies will call home. It will happen in the most unlikeliest of places in the Philippines.
Port Irene is setting up to become a gambling mecca. The area already has 195 rooms that are for gambling and plans are in the works for 400 more by the end of the year.
If that number seems amazing, it gets even more outrageous in the projections in which they will have 800 total rooms. The area is also planning for an international airport, which would make it easily accessible from anywhere in the world.
Port Irene is only open to foreigners but that does not seem to worry them. They currently get many of their visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The movement of Port Irene could have a negative impact on Macau, but only time will tell whether they will be strong enough to make a dent in the industry for the long term.
