It has been a few years since the Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl. ironically enough for the city of Pittsburgh, it has been equally as long that they have been waiting for a casino project to be completed.

Don Barden started with his dream of bringing a casino to Pittsburgh. he received the licenses that were needed and began construction on the project. Then the economy took a turn for the worst, and Barden ran out of money.

Unable to come up with the funding to finish the project, Barden turned to billionaire Neil Bluhm to take ownership of the project and the casino. Now, after gaining approval of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, he once again has the casino construction moving along.

Bluhm is hoping that he can open the casino, which will have 3,000 slot machines, before August. The wait has been long for residents of Pittsburgh, but at least now they see the finish line.

The Pittsburgh project is not the only one that Bluhm is involved with in the state. he also is trying to bring a casino to Philadelphia, but unlike in Pittsburgh, his plans are being met with resistance.

When the finished product of the casino is complete in Pittsburgh, the casino will have 5,000 slot machines. Bluhm expects that by 2011 all 5,000 slot machines will be in place at the River Casino.
