Pittsburgh's Planning Department Report on Casino Proposals
Plans for a casino at Station Square, to be created by Harrah's Entertainment Inc. and Cleveland-based Forest City Enterprises, beat out proposals from Biloxi-Miss.-based Isle of Capri and Detroit-Mich.-based PITG Gaming of the Majestic Star casinos, said Planning Director Patrick Ford.
The department rated the casinos on six categories: location, site planning, building design, socio-economic impact, transportation and the operators' success in other cities. Harrah's rated highest in each casino category except for transportation.
Ford said the proposed Isle of Capri casino in the lower Hill District would be the easiest of the three to reach and create fewer traffic problems than the proposed Majestic Star casino on the North Shore or Harrah's in Station Square.
