Planning Board to Allow Possibility of Gaming Casino and Poker
An upscale restaurant at the city's west entrance is better than a fast-food chain or second-hand store, at least in the eyes of John Toenyes. Toenyes, the owner of Elmer's Restaurant used that argument to make his case to change zoning of his property before the City Planning board Tuesday afternoon. He wants to regain the option for video poker and keno machines on the restaurant site. The planning board ultimately voted to recommend the zone change. But the City Commission will make the final decision on the matter. Toenyes isn't interested in opening a casino. But the restaurant is for sale and a new owner of the property might be, he said. Elmer's, 1600 Fox Farm Road, was zoned for general commercial use until October. That's when new zoning designations went into effect citywide.
