The issue of casino gambling has come up in the state of Ohio several times over the past decade. Each time it has been brought to voters, the idea of casinos in the state have been turned away.

That may change the next time around. According to a new poll done by the University of Cincinnati's Institute for Policy Research, sixty percent of adults they surveyed are now in favor of legalized casino gambling.

"What this poll shows, as though it was only a small sample size, is that people in Ohio are seeing what other states are doing in terms of casino gambling," said observer Harvey Freedlan, "And they are starting to realize the benefits of having casinos in an area."

The poll was conducted on 818 adults. Sixty percent of those people polled backed legalizing casino gambling. Thirty-eight percent opposed. More people would support a casino in a large city near their homes than a decade ago. Fifty-four percent approved the big city casinos.

November may be the next time that voters in their state get to have their voices heard on the casino gambling issue. There is a plan in the works that would have Penn National Gaming would bring casinos to Toledo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Columbus.

Four times in the past decade lawmakers have tried to change the casino gaming laws, and all four times voters defeated the advances. Now, however, the economy could be a factor in changing the minds and votes of some Ohioans.
