Presidential Election Betting Odds Unchanged After Obama VP Pick

The polls say that the presidential election is getting tighter. Senator John McCain has closed the gap on Senator Barack Obama and that means the next few months will be crucial to both candidates.

Obama made the first move on Saturday when he announced his running mate for the November election. Joe Biden, will join him on the Democratic ticket, but the move has not yet changed the betting odds for November.

Obama is still a 2-5 favorite to win the election. John McCain has made up ground on Obama, according to polls, but it has not swayed the thinking of the odds makers. McCain is still a 7-4 underdog.

It had been anticipated that Obama would announce his running mate on Friday, but the day came and went and there was no indication on who would join him on the ticket. On Saturday, in the early morning hours, it was leaked that his choice was Biden.

The Democratic convention begins on Monday and neither the presidential nor vice-presidential hopefuls will be speaking until at least mid-week. Biden will speak on Wednesday and Obama will speak on Thursday.

Senator McCain does not plan on allowing the Democrats to ride the convention wave to a boost in the polls. He plans on announcing his vice-presidential choice on Friday in an effort to slow the momentum the Democrats and Obama will gain earlier in the week.
