Problem Gambling Awareness Week Begins Across The US
In the US there has been a major movement towards casino gambling. The form of gambling has become accepted in almost every society and along with that acceptance comes responsibility.
The responsibility part began in full force on Sunday with the first day of Problem Gambling Awareness Week. The message has already began to be distributed through government agencies.
In New York, the State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Commissioner Karen M. Carpenter-Palumbo warned of the dangers that are associated with gambling. She focused on the point of how gambling problems can be hidden.
"Nearly one million New Yorkers as young as age 12 are dealing with problem gambling," said Carpenter-Palumbo, "And that doesn't include the family members and friends who are also impacted by its devastating consequences."
Other states have also began preparing for a long week of awareness. There will be several seminars being put on that will feature guest speakers. The speakers will focus on the different areas of gambling addiction.
National Problem Gambling Awareness week runs from Sunday all the way through Saturday. With casino gambling expansion taking place in record numbers across the country, this week has become important to alert the public about addictions that can be formed from gambling.
