Problem Gambling Groups Worry About Revenue Figures In Australia
Gambling hall revenue in NSW are at an all time high. While the pubs are excited about the high figures, problem gambling groups are concerned about the spending a a time of economic crisis.
New numbers that have been released revealed that gambling halls in NSW are making over $1 billion a year from poker machines. While most countries would be overcome with joy when seeing those numbers, that is not the case in Australia.
The high gambling figures are now being called into question by people associated with helping problem gamblers. They are looking for a reduction in the number of machines that are available in low income areas.
The economy is Australia is struggling much like in the US and other places around the world. The problem gambling groups are concerned that people are spending what little money they have gambling.
It is a concern that has been addressed in many areas. The gambling halls claim that the slots that are being played is no more draining than liquor or cigarettes. The only reason they believe the government does not look into those vices is that they are receiving high taxes on those items.
The problem gambling groups, however, disagree. They feel that people are hurting to such a degree financially, that they will take their last dollars and put them on the hope of striking it big in these gambling halls.
The issue has become a serious one in Australia with both sides becoming increasingly entrenched in their stances. The problem gambling groups want less machines, while the gambling halls want everything to continue as is.
