Pull Tab And Low Stakes Gambling Coming To Indiana Bars Tuesday
Indiana is moving along on their efforts to expand gambling in their state. On Tuesday, new laws will go into effect that will allow bars to offer pull tabs and other forms of low stakes gambling.
Tip boards and punchboards will also be available at bars under the new laws. The expanded gambling will help bar owners who, like most Americans, are battling through tough economic times.
"We don't perceive this to be anything like a core business. We envision this to be something that helps pay the bills at the end of the month," said Don Marquardt, President of the Indiana Licensed Beverage Association.
Bar owners must pay a licensing fee of $250 to the state if they want to offer these types of gambling. Whatever the bars pay for the games, the state will also receive ten percent of. Applications are still pending, but as of now 204 retailers have been licensed.
The new laws come at a good time for bar owners. Other new non smoking laws have hurt business for many bar owners in Indiana. Tougher drunk driving laws have also cost many bars their customers. They are hoping that the expanded gambling will help them recover some of that loss.
