Quinnipiac Poll Shows Ohio Voters In Favor Of Expanded Gambling
The people of Ohio have changed their minds on the gambling issue in the state. After years of voting against expanded gambling in the form of casinos, a new poll indicates that the majority of residents now are in favor of gambling expansion.
The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute has released the results of a recent poll in Ohio that covered a wide range of topics from Governor Strickland's approval rating to the gambling expansion issue. The results show a major change of heart by Ohioans.
Sixty-five percent of the people polled now believe that slot machines should be added to state racetracks. In addition, sixty percent of the people polled feel that it is time to bring casinos to Ohio. Governor Strickland himself has recently flipped on the issue.
"The people of Ohio are starting to realize that the additional jobs that can be created and the revenue generated are both necessities in the state," said observer Kellie Beck, "they also realize that without the expanded gambling, their taxes are going to rise, and nobody wants that in this economy."
There is a proposal that has received the necessary signatures that would ask voters in November to approve casinos in four major cities in Ohio. The poll indicates that voters would be in favor of that expansion.
Gambling proponents are calling for casinos in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo, and Columbus. Sixty-one percent of those polled are in favor of this proposal. The margin of error in the poll is 2.8 percentage points.
