Resorts World Sentosa has been nothing but a positive experience for casino goers in Singapore since its opening. This past week, however, the casino faced its first major customer disapproval situation after having to cancel a Tom Jones concert set for Thursday evening.
Resorts World is the first casino in Singapore, and they have dedicated themselves to bringing Las Vegas-type entertainment to the casino for their patrons. Jones came down with a case acute laryngitis, and had to cancel the show, although his representatives believe the singer will re-schedule.
"Sir Tom has been resting his voice all week in Singapore, with regular checkups with local specialists," read the statement prepared by Jones' management. "Unfortunately, the doctors are nevertheless unable to guarantee that Sir Tom would be able to perform the full show tonight at 100 percent vocal strength."
Resorts World issued an apology to customers who had tickets for the show. The casino will refund all ticket holders. Last week, Jones had to leave the stage after just two songs, telling the audience he could not go on.
Resorts World is owned by Genting, a Malaysian gaming developer. The company opened the casino earlier this year, beating Las Vegas Sands by a couple of months. Sands will be opening their Marina Bay Sands this month.
The economy forced Sands to put the Singapore casino project on hold. After an initial public offering in Asia late last year, Sands used some of the revenue generated to finishing the project.
