Revenue Down At Louisiana Casinos In February
In the state of Louisiana, casinos are pleased with the outcome of February revenue figures. Although the numbers were still down from the same period the previous year, they were not as bad as the ones other states are experiencing.
For February, the state casinos took in $222 million in revenue. That figure is down from the $236 for February of 2008. The decrease amounts to almost six percent, a number that is not bad when considering other states have dropped over ten percent.
"It is good to see that in a short month, the casino revenue still was acceptable. There is no doubt that Mardi Gras helped those figures, but just the fact that there was not a great decrease from one year to the next is a positive sign for casinos," said observer Norman Heskey.
The news may not have been bad for Louisiana, but other states were not as lucky. Atlantic City has long been considered the Las Vegas of the East Coast, but their casinos are drowning under the recession.
Speaking of Las Vegas, they are another city where casinos are nowhere near their expected revenue. The economy has taken a bigger toll on Nevada casinos than anywhere else in the US. That does not bode well for a state that relies heavily on their casino industry.
