Rio Hotel Casino in Las Vegas To Close Rooms For Inspections
If something as small as an electrical ground fault from a pastry case could cause such a big fire and claim almost 100 lives, then the Developmental Services department in Las Vegas is making sure that all buildings are in compliance with inspection laws.
The Rio Hotel and Casino has the spotlight on them as safety inspections will be taking place at the casino over the next 11 weeks.
The hotel is expected to close up to nine rooms at a time until all of the inspections are complete. the inspections actually should have been done back when renovation was done to the hotel in 2004 and 2005.
The cause for concern comes from complaints from electricians that shortcuts were taken during that renovation a few years ago and that the safety of the public was at stake because of those shortcuts.
The idea that Harrah's Entertainment did some remodeling without pulling the proper permits has opened eyes in the state. A public information officer for the county, Stacey Welling said that the department has ,"reopened its investigation into an allegation that staff at Harrah's Entertainment did remodeling work at the Rio Hotel without necessary permits. The department takes this allegation very seriously."
In addition to the departments investigation, the company has also launched its own investigation into the matter of the remodeling efforts.
