Riverboat Casinos Could be Coming To Missouri After Tuesday Vote
Riverboat casinos are popular in some U.S. states, Missouri has a ban on them. That may change on Tuesday when voters will get their chance to repeal the ban.
Currently, bettors are being forced to gamble at the Isle of Capri in Boonville. Supporters of the ban repeal claim that offering a riverboat casino would be an alternative for gamblers.
"While I don't believe gaming is a savior for our community, I think it can be one element that contributes to a broader positive impact to diversifying our local economy, which today is highly dependent upon state government," said Jefferson City Councilman, Kevin Brown.
The area is in need of new jobs. With the economy as tough as it is, communities are always looking for ways to employ their citizens.
Opponents have been very adamant that they do not want the riverboat gambling. This weekend in the local paper an ad is asking people to vote against the referendum. If that happens, it would again be defeated, much like in 1995, when voters voted against riverboat casinos.
