Rivers Casino And Steelers Battle For Roadways Tonight
One of the main concerns for city officials in Pittsburgh with the new Rivers Casino was going to be the traffic situation. Tonight, these officials will get the worst possible scenario, with the casino going head to head for road space with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers open their preseason tonight in a rematch of last year's Super Bowl with Arizona. The fans of Pittsburgh show up strong whether it is preseason, or week seventeen. That will create quite a logjam of traffic between the Steelers game and the casino.
"Everyone knew that this casino would bring more traffic, and with its proximity to Heinz Field, it could have presented a problem during Steelers home games," said observer Mike Rutz, who has been to the new casino and is an avid Steelers fan, "tonight, I guess we'll see what happens."
What the city expects to happen is both good and bad. They are unsure how the casino will affect people on their way to the Steelers game, but they are hopeful of the end result. The ultimate hope is that the fans trickle out of the stadium after the game, and head to the casino.
The Rivers Casino just opened on Sunday, and the traffic has been little problem so far. There were thousands of people who attended the casino on its first day. Millions of dollars was won for both the casino and the state.
Tonight, the casino gets its first full challenge, and it comes from the defending Super Bowl champions. City officials may be uptight over the traffic, but fans should be relishing in the opportunity to catch a Steelers game and then head out to the casino.
