The Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh is one of the newer gambling facilities in the state of Pennsylvania, but the owners clearly are intent on making it one of the best. On Monday, Rivers petitioned to run table games at their casino.

Earlier this year, lawmakers in the state of Pennsylvania legalized table games for the state's casinos. That opened up the possibility of millions of dollars being pumped into the economy.

Already, several casinos have petitioned the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, and on Monday, Rivers followed. Rivers asked for the right to operate eighty-six table games that will include poker, blackjack, roulette, and craps, among others.

The casino expects that blackjack will be the big draw of the group. The game is a classic around the world and gamblers have traveled from far off places to play blackjack in Atlantic City and Las Vegas.

The Pennsylvania casino gaming industry is on the upswing. In December, the state's casinos had higher slot revenue than their competitors in AC. It was the first time ever that it happened, and the state believes it can pull even more customers away from AC in the future.

Atlantic City was once known as the gaming capital of the East Coast, but in recent years the industry has struggled. The economy has brought on financial hardships that are threatening to bankrupt many of the city's eleven casino resorts.
