Rivers Casino In Pittsburgh Brings In $14 Million On Sunday
People must have been saving up money for months to attend the opening of the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh on Sunday. The gambling figures have been released, and over $14 million in bets were taken in on the casinos first day.
"It really was an amazing scene," said Tracy Barsh, who was at the casino when it opened at noon on Sunday, "people were everywhere. I actually had a hard time getting a slot machine early on, but as the day wore on I found one I liked, and was able to play."
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and the casino itself could not have been more pleased with the outcome. The expectations had been high that once the casino opened it would draw a lot of customers, and that certainly was the case on the first day of operation.
The Board gave their approval on Saturday for the opening of Rivers casino. There had been two test days before that, one on last Wednesday and one Friday, to ensure that all of the machines and the rest of the operation were running smoothly.
Although it was a highly successful first day, the casino did not break any records with their revenue figures. In fact, both the Sands Bethlehem and The Meadows opened with higher numbers. Sands brought in $1.6 million in revenue on May 22nd, and The Meadows brought in $1.48 million in April.
Another thing that could not be determined by the first day revenue figures is how the casino will do in the future. Normally, the first couple of months a casino is open, the revenue is higher. That comes from people wanting to try something new. It will be several months before the Board can get an idea of how the casino will fare.
