Ron Sparks Runs For Governor In Alabama On Gambling Platform
The state of Alabama is at a crossroads when it comes to casino gambling. The so-called "good ole boys" have been running gaming establishments for many years, but the current governor of the state has set up a task force to shut down these gaming establishments.
While the current governor is trying to stop casino gambling completely, a candidate to take over the governor position is running his campaign on a pro-gambling platform. Ron Sparks believes that legalized casino gambling could hold the key to financial freedom in the state.
"Casino gambling is an industry," said Sparks, to WHNT, "it is an industry that is growing like kudzu across Alabama right now. Alabama residents are spending a billion dollars a year in casinos right now, but our state realizes virtually no income from this billion-dollar industry."
Sparks raises points that have led many Governor's to be elected in other states in recent years. Governor Duval Patrick of Massachusetts ran his campaign largely on the issue of gambling, and was successful in winning.
The state of Ohio is another in which voters have recently changed their stance on casino gambling. There has been a ,ajor shift throughout the US in the acceptance level of casinos. State politicians are using gambling expansion to help offset the economic recession.
In Alabama, they are just starting their phase of casino acceptance. Sparks is hoping that enough residents understand that the gambling is already taking place, and that the state of Alabama should be the beneficiary of this gambling activity.
