Russian Hi Rollers Gamble Away $6 Billion
According to the Russian parliament, the gambling industry has reached a size of over $6 billion dollars in total wagers, mostly by a few hi rollers.
Alexander Lebedev, a deputy of the Russian parliament, says most of the money is wagered in Moscow gambling casinos and slot machine halls.
A recent survey of people over the age of 18 revealed that only 19% approved of casino slots, while many favored an outright national ban on gambling.
So, what do these numbers tell us? Well, according to Russian officials, most of the $6 billion dollars wagered in Russia is done by a very small percentage of the population. For those few, Gamblers Anonymous meetings are almost as popular as Alcoholics Anonymous in the US used to be.
The spirit of casino gambling, nightlife, and entertainment are hovering over Moscow. Will the rest of the mainstream population begin to join the few casino hi rollers? If so, Moscow could eventually be the next hotbed for casino gambling investments, just as Asia was a few years ago.
